Spoilers forward for Episode 18 of Legislation & Purchase: SVU Year 23, known as “Eighteen Wheels a Predator.”
Legislation & Purchase: SVU delivered a new type of darkness with “Eighteen Wheels a Predator,” with the discovery of not only a serial rapist who had been lively throughout the state for a long time, but also a different person who had been assaulting his sister at any time because she was a boy or girl. Benson was not in the most effective temper from the incredibly commencing, and it is really hard to blame her for it, but I’m asking yourself: could SVU be setting her up for a modify in her career?
The darkness of this scenario isn’t what solely produced me get started thinking if there’s transform on the way for Mariska Hargitay’s character. Benson was clearly not in a superior temper from the incredibly beginning just after not sleeping, becoming termed into a brutal scenario in Central Park, and then pressured to play politics with McGrath on the scene. She just appeared exhausted with her job at the NYPD.
Truthfully, kudos to her for long lasting as long as she has without having so extensively unwell of McGrath that she snapped. He has been offering her issues and interfering with her unit all season, and she already was not disposed to be delighted to welcome him after he ousted Main Garland. (Though Demore Barnes is returning in the next episode to reprise the purpose.)
Nevertheless, Benson staying weary of the politics was not the only twist that manufactured me start out pondering that she might want to make some variations. As component of a push meeting soon after catching the serial rapist, she sent her assertion to credit NYPD and make McGrath joyful, but she did not cease there and sent what was evidently an ad lib:
You know, in fact, a single far more thing. None of this would’ve been attainable without the determination and encounter of SVU Sergeant Odafin Tutuola and Detective Amanda Rollins.
Amen to that, Olivia! She absolutely wasn’t exaggerating when she designed positive to credit rating Fin and Rollins (who was finally again from her time with her mom this week alongside with Carisi) for their “dedication and encounter.” They not only flew down to Kentucky on the possibility that a victim there experienced been attacked by the identical particular person who assaulted the woman in Central Park, but served make the situation as airtight as feasible.
It also created me question if she has place some assumed into passing on the torch to Fin. He has undoubtedly place in the time at Exclusive Victims, and his tenure has far outlasted the likes of Stabler and Crager, whose operates as regulars you can revisit with a Hulu subscription. (Those two a short while ago reunited over on Law & Order: Organized Crime.) A advertising does not exactly match Ice-T’s vision for how he’d like Fin’s tale to conclusion, but it would be a advancement that would improve the full L&O franchise.
SVU has currently been renewed for Time 24, and Mariska Hargitay however would seem really enthusiastic about her purpose in the Legislation & Order franchise, so I’m not particularly worried about Benson essentially leaving the clearly show. But “Eighteen Wheels a Predator” leaves me considering that a little something is going to have to give.
Ideally, that will be McGrath becoming ousted and Benson being remaining by itself to do what she does greatest with no interference from bigger up the NYPD ladder, but only time will inform. New episodes of Legislation & Buy: SVU air on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC, involving the primary Law & Order at 8 p.m. and Regulation & Get: Structured Crime (which is having far more risky for Stabler, in accordance to a single star) at 10 p.m. ET.
