Law & Order casts Supergirl star in season 22

Supergirl‘s Mehcad Brooks has been cast in season 22 of NBC’s legal drama Law & Order.

According to TVLine, the actor will play a detective, though other details about his character are being kept under wraps for the time being.

Brooks appeared in the CW series Supergirl as Jimmy Olsen, aka the superhero Guardian, before leaving in season five. He appeared again in the series finale, which aired in November 2021.

The news of his casting in Law & Order comes after Anthony Anderson, who played Detective Kevin Bernard in the season 21 revival, announced his departure from the show.

Bernard’s final episode saw him work to solve the murder of a fellow cop alongside partner Frank Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan).

Meanwhile, the future of Sam Waterston’s returning character District Attorney Jack McCoy had been uncertain until recently, but it has now been confirmed that he will be returning to season 22.

The show also features Hugh Dancy (Hannibal) as senior prosecutorial assistant Nathan Price, Odelya Halevi (Good Trouble) as ADA Samantha Maroun, and Camryn Manheim (The Practice) as Lt Kate Dixon.

Showrunner Rick Eid recently teased that we can expect some more character-driven storylines this season.

“I’m excited about next season,” he told TVLine. “I think next year, we’ll get an opportunity to dig even deeper into the character stuff, which really excites me.”

The show had its 22nd season confirmed in May, with its sister series Law & Order: Organized Crime also renewed for a third season.

Law & Order: SVU had its 24th season confirmed too, but will getting a big change with showrunner Warren Leight stepping down.

“The final day of shooting is always bittersweet. Today was a little more than that. As some of you have already figured out, I am stepping down at the end of #SVU23,” he said. “The last two years of show running during a pandemic have been arduous, and I’ve decided to take a break.”

Law & Order airs on NBC. Law & Order: SVU airs Thursdays on NBC in the US. The show airs on Sky Witness in the UK, with select episodes available on NOW.
