What you will find in Law & Justice

Law & Justice looks at how the system treats people who cannot afford a lawyer or a bond. We cover pretrial detention, public defence, sentencing and the gap between a constitutional promise and a crowded docket.

How we keep Law & Justice current

The section is evidence-first. Reform debates are full of numbers that measure different things: jail population, failure-to-appear rates, new criminal activity, case outcomes. We identify which number a study uses, over what period, and what it cannot tell you. That is slower than an opinion, and more useful.
